Capt. John Leech
John became addicted to the thrill of fishing the Florida waters when he moved there as a fishing tackle rep in 1975. He has been working as a full time guide specializing in putting his clients on the best bass fishing in the state since 1988. He is also a well know and accomplished tournament angler. He began his national tournament career with a great showing in the B.A.S.S. MEGA BUCKS inaugural series on the Harris Chain of Lakes in 198 where he placed in the top 10 and finished higher than many of the most well know anglers of all time. John is actually one of only a small number of fishermen who have qualified for the MEGABUCKS TOP TEN twice, in 1986 and again in 1990. John also fished the FLW trail with his best finish being 2nd place on Lake Okeechobee. He then went on to qualify for the FLW CLASSIC in 1995/96. in 1999, due to family concerns and his desire to spend more time with his daughter, John retired from tournament fishing. As anyone who loves tournament fishing knows, the choice was hard. But for John it was the right one and all the people who have benefited from his knowledge and expertise over the years appreciate his choice to focus on guiding.
Just a few examples of John's teaching ability:
- BASSMASTER Magazine has quoted John in several articles since 1996 including his monthly reports on the bass patterns and best fishing techniques for Lake Kissimmee.
- BASSER Magazine quoted John in Japan's June-July 1996 edition.
- B.A.S.S. Times Publication, the September 1996 issue, quoted John regarding the 1996 Lake Kissimmee drawdown.
- John has been a featured guest on many television shows because of his ability to teach fishing techniques.
John supports and supplies info for the National Teen Anglers (www.teenangler.com). This program gives teen anglers the opportunity to learn the intricate details of fishing and it gives them the opportunity to put that knowledge into practice. There is a great need for mentors for young anglers all across this country and John gives his time to the NTA because he believes in giving back to the sport he loves.
