FISHING CAT Species Spotlight – Big Cat TV

Meet the fishing cat. This feline from Asia is a lesser cat that loves the water and will actually swim to catch its prey. Big Cat Rescue supports the “Way Kambas” park in Sumatra which saves habitat for the tiger, which also is where the fishing cat lives.

    I’m from Sri Lanka, As I think I had both the fishing cat & the leopord cats as domestic cats, Unfortunatly both male cats go wild once they hit adulthood. But as what I have heard back in Sri Lanka, the Fishing cat is a bit larger than the leopord cat

    @tombee2 We’re always looking for able volunteers, if you visit our website: BigCatRescue*org you will find more information :) We will try and do a spotlight on the leopard cats in the future!

    @BigCatRescue Ha! I knew it! They look very similar and leopard cats love water too!

    Does that mean I can get a job with you guys?!

    Please do a spotlight on leopard cats – pleeeeeeeeeease! I think it would be very interesting for a lot of people and broaden your audience considerably and get you more support from all the people who have Bengals as pets.

    Thanks for your reply :-)

    @tombee2 Leopard …
    @tombee2 Leopard cats are related to the fishing cat, we may do a spotlight sometime in the future :)

  5. tombee2 says:

    Are these related …
    Are these related to the Asian leopard cat at all – they look a little similar… can you do a spotlight on that species please?
    I have Bengals and I’m sure you know, they’re related, so I’d like to try a learn a little more about their behaviour and see how they act a little bit – maybe it’ll help me provide activities for my 2 boys. Thanks.

  10. BigCatRescue says:

    @Viking790 Sure, …
    @Viking790 Sure, all wild cats species can be potentially dangerous to humans, but I’ve never heard of any attacks by this species, they would rather hide from people than attack.

    @ …
    @italianguidettebaybeAs others already have written, you’re thinking of the FISHER, which is a completely different animal, that some people call the “Fisher Cat”.
    The fishing cat is a cat species that ONLY lives in Asia, and nowhere else. The “fisher” is not a cat, but a marten. It does not resemble the fishing cat in any way.

  18. soaringvulture says:

    @ …
    @italianguidettebaybe That’s a different critter completely. The fisher cat (not the fishing cat) is a very large weasel that was introduced to New England by lumber companies because it preyed on porcupines (porcupines damage trees).

    Now imagine how mean an animal must be if it prefers to eat porcupines rather than something else. That’s a fisher cat, and it’s the nastiest thing on 4 legs.

  19. shidan100 says:

    @ …
    @italianguidettebaybe You are confusing fisher cats (which are not real cats but related to wolverines) for fishing cats (the cat in this video).

    @BigCatRescue
    No, they’re deffinitly fisher cats.

    @unreals500 A large garden doesn’t compare to the wild, no matter how you look at it they are better off in the wild.

    @italianguidettebaybe You must be mistaking the fishing cat with the bobcat maybe?
