Fly Fishing Tips for Beginners

Fly fishing is a very popular fishing sport that can be both relaxing and challenging at the same time.

The following tips and tricks are ideal for beginners. When you’re just starting out learning to fly fish you’ll want all the help and advice that you can get from the experts.

Tip #1: Practice your Casting
The experts say that the one thing that you need to do to develop a good casting technique is to practice as often as you can. This will lead to a proficiency in casting that make all the difference between being a successful fly fisher or a frustrated one.

Try practicing against a wall on the outside of your house. Just imagine that there is a clock hanging on the wall that is at the same level as your shoulder. Place markers, such as black electric tape, at the 11:00 and 1:00 clock positions. Practice casting against these markers for a few minutes each day to improve your accuracy and style.

Tip #2: Rods
There are several things that you need to think about when choosing the right type of rod for you. Every reel and rod has a certain function that you need to be aware of.
One of the first things that you need to consider is comfort. Is the rod that you’re using comfortable for you to hold? If you’re shorter than about 5’5″ you won’t want to use a rod that is seven feet. Choose a rod length that is easy for you to hold and cast for a few hours at a time.

Most of the rods on the market today are designed to allow you to feel when a fish bites. The shaft of the rod is called a “blank” and when the rod is first manufactured the blank is made from fiberglass, graphite, or other materials. Each of these blanks has an action that is either: light, medium, medium/heavy, or heavy. The upper portion will also have an action that is either: extra light, light, or regular.

Both ends of the blank are assembled and the final result is a fishing rod, complete with a handle and guide. No matter what type of rod that you’re using, the “action” of the rod will refer to the “blank”. The action of the rod will have a great deal to do with the type of fishing that you’re doing.

Tip #3: Holding your Rod Effectively
It’s important that you learn to hold your rod effectively under any fishing conditions. You want to make sure that you maintain good control at all times without gripping too hard. You can adjust the power of your hold when you’re in the middle of a cast. This will allow you to minimize the vibrations of each movement. With just a bit of practice you’ll be able to increase the tightness at the same as you learn to relax your grip.

Tip #4: What do to with a Running Fish
Be prepared if a fish runs toward you. Stand on your toes and at the same time raise your rod up over your head as high as you can. Take the line and put it back over onto your second and third fingers of the hand that is holding the rod. Quickly strip the line to pull up on any slack.

If the fish starts to run away from you make sure that you keep the rod up high and slowly let out the line, letting it slide from your fingers. Be ready to palm the reel of the rod when the slack is entirely gone.

Tip #5: Best Bait Choices
Following is a list of some best bait choices as recommended by the experts:

Grubs: Grubs are small lures that are usually used to catch larger fish. Grubs are great for use in highland reservoirs where there is little cover for the fish. The grub is much like a bare jig head that has a soft plastic body to attach to the hook. You’ll want to use them most often in clear water conditions.
Jigs are best used in water that is clear to murky and in water temperatures that are below 60 degrees. The jig is considered to be a “presentation” lure and the ideal way to use them is by making them look as alive as you can. The jig is essentially lead-weighted bait that has one hook. You’ll want to add a trailer to the end of the hook for the best results.
Plastic worms: If you want to catch that trophy fish you’ll probably want to use a plastic worm. This is because the plastic worm is one of the most effective lures for catching any type of big fish. Plastic worms have a thin and long profile with a lifelike action that attracts them instantly to bass. You’ll have to learn how to use a plastic worm by touch, feel, and practice. The more that you practice that better results you’ll achieve. The one thing that you need to keep in mind is that the fish needs to see the worm before it will hit it. Therefore a plastic worm is best used in clear water.
Lure color: Choose lures that are all black or all white. A mix of black and red also works quite well. There will be the odd time when fluorescent colors, such as bright yellow or green, will work well but you’ll need to experiment with this.

How To Go Crappie Night Fishing

If you really enjoy fishing, you should experience crappie night fishing, which can lead to a huge catch in a short period of time. If you know where to go and where to drop your line, you can find some excellent crappie night fishing at several of your own area lakes. What techniques give you the best options for night fishing? Where should you be looking for crappie in the dark of night?

To begin with, it requires some basic equipment. You can take your pick of rod and reel, but the best line to use is either braid or microfilament. Use #1 size hooks, with 1/4 ounce sinkers with snap swivels or 1/4 ounce jigheads. You’ll probably want to bring a plankton attracting light that has a fully charged 12-volt battery. Frozen anchovies make excellent bait. Other equipment that can be helpful includes an LED headlamp and an ice bucket for your catch.

Night fishing for crappie is best when you avoid the full moon, and try not to fish for two days before and after the full moon, and for best results, make your trip as close to the new moon as possible. Cut the anchovies into smaller pieces, about one inch in length; this will get more bites than large pieces because crappie have small mouths that tear easily and they do not bite large bait. Depending on the night location you choose, you may have to search deep in the lake to find the schools. However, you can also fish off the docks, piers, and banks for crappie in the shallows with lots of cover.

As with typical daytime fishing, you’ll want to cast several lines at various depths in order to find the best location where crappie are suspended. Because they prefer cooler temperatures in the summer, you’ll find that night fishing often brings fish closer to the surface as the waters cool overnight. By the same token, night fishing in the winter will produce the opposite effect; crappie will be found closer to the bottom of the lake, where temperature maintains a bit of warmth and general consistency.

Crappie night fishing can be frustrating when you are inexperienced in the practice, so for your first few times out, you should carry an electronic depth finder with you to help you locate possible schools of crappie, unless you plan to fish off the banks or piers. Target areas around tree bases or rocky embankments, as these are favored hiding places for loose schools of crappie. They don’t like any kind of exposure and will hide in any cover they can find.

How does different pound test fishing line effect the casting distace with baitcasting reels?

Also how does the different types of fishing line effect casting with baitcasting reels?

In part is less line friction with smaller diameter lines but it also is the rod(action & length),reel(spool design) and weight of lure or weight used for casting!
Any properly set up rod n reel will be able to cast some distance but what are you looking for?
With the advent of the braids we can put heavier lb line with smaller diameters on reels which can increase casting distance.

What bait is good for surf fishing off the outer banks in north carolina?

I’m going there in like 2 weeks and heard there was good fishing. I will get a chance to go in the sound and ocean. Also could you specify what baits for what types of fish.

i investigated Outer Banks fishing and they have the same species of fish we have here in Flagler Beach Fl. if your not familiar with fishing saltwater you might want to target Spots & Croaker. Spots and Croaker will give you the most action. if you target bigger game species like Redfish, Sea Trout, Stripers, Bluefish, Flounder you probably won’t get as many hits. But who knows? you might kill’m.

The best bait for surf fishing that area would be dead shrimp. you could also use fresh cut mullet and squid.

you might want to take or buy some half oz Jigs and use either Berkley saltwater Gulp or a Strip bait of mullet. there is tons of info on Outer Bank Fishing do a google search for more info.

Fishing at Lake Bungsamran for the Giant Siamese Carp, Bangkok, Thailand

I arrived at Bungsamran Lake at 6am on the dot, just as the daylight was beginning to appear. It was a beautiful morning with very little breeze, the surface of the Lake was like a mirror only being disturbed by the appearance of some of the huge fish that lurk in this world class fishing water.

Khun Boonsong mixed the bait while he waited for me to set my rods up, the apprehension of the first cast still makes my heart beat that much faster here. Khun Boomsong is one of the leading carp specialist guides working here and what he does not know about Siamese Carp is not worth knowing.

The bait that he had mixed was a combination of baby milk powder, custard cream flavour, sweet corn with a few other secret ingredients (he calls it his mega mix carp bait); all this was added into the base mix of rice bran. This blend is a much wetter combination than the one we use to catch the Mekong Catfish.

Nothing had happened for the first half hour, so Boonsong had gone to buy breakfast; he had not been gone thirty seconds, when bingo, I had a bite, the fish ran and the line was screaming off the reel, then it just stopped (probably sensing the hook). I wound the reel to take up the slack line, I thought, maybe it had shed the hook, suddenly the line tightened as the fish moved, I immediately struck and set the hook firmly in its mouth; the fight was on!

After the initial excitement of hooking into the fish, I had started to look for hints as to what kind of fish it was. From my previous experiences, the Striped Catfish and the Mekong Catfish are similar; they tend to run with the bait stripping line off the reel at a fantastic rate. The Mekong and the smaller striped Catfish give long hard runs, which slowly curve in a “C” or a wide “S” shaped course.

The Siamese Giant Carp tend to run deep and turn suddenly in an almost zig zag path. It is hard to believe that these fish when in the water are completely weightless and you are just fighting its sheer power.

My line carved a classic letter “Z” and I was fairly certain that I had a carp on the end of the line.  I knew I had to take my time and play the fish, unlike the Giant Mekong Catfish the Carp has a very soft mouth and too much drag will pull the hook out. I decided to back off the drag slightly; I used an Accurate Boss Magnum 870 with Lever Drag, very fine consistent adjustments to the drag are easily achieved without moving your hands from the rod and reel. They are much easier to use than a fixed spool reel especially when fishing for the larger specimens.

My aim at this point was to tire the fish as quickly as possible and keep it out as far as I could; the Siamese Giant Carp are renowned for appearing to give up and roll over, then at the last minute making a dash for freedom (there are many bungalows surrounding the lake and a pier splitting it in half, many fish have been lost in between the supports and stanchions).

The fight was ten minutes in and I had made progress, the fish was tiring -it was not the only one, my arms were beginning to ache. After another five minutes of struggle, it made a determined sharp turn, which actually brought its side out of the water, it was a Siamese Carp.

The Carp made several more sharp turns and then typical to these creatures, it feigned submission, which I had been ready for. I shifted to one side and instead of letting the fish run underneath the bungalow we were in, I moved it towards the left, increasing the drag slightly and with some fancy footwork (I new those ballet lessons would come in handy one day) the last ditched run for the snags was foiled.

The carp made its last attempt to go deep, kicking up the silt -causing lots of bubbles of natural gas, which is trapped in the bottom of the lake- but by this time it was exhausted so was I, but the fish did not know that, Boomsong appeared, with the landing net in hand I was never more pleased to see him, he quickly prepared the deck to receive the fish.

We unhooked the line from its mouth and we also removed another snapped line from a previous battle which it had obviously won.

The Siamese Giant Carp weighed in at 25.3Kg 56lbs which was quickly returned to the lake after a couple of photographs for the album.

Guided by Khun (Mr.) Boonsong

How You Can Make a Huge Niche Income?

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the ‘Business-opportunity’ world of the internet with promises of wealth by simply firing up a few web pages, then wait for an avalanche of cash to hit the bank accounts.

Many believe its easy money, a kind of ‘Get Rich Quick’ scheme. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Done correctly e-book publishing can seriously bring about massive changes to your current lifestyle. For more details visit to www.googleincomemachine.com .We are not talking millions here either, but by creating several mini sites each earning a thousand a month could generate an enviable lifestyle. To do this we need to come up with endless ideas on how to create hot, niche-hungry information products.

Finding these niche info products can be a daunting task if you don’t know where to look. The whole process can be both exasperating, and time consuming if you struggle to find the right material. But fear not. In this article I’m going to reveal where you can exploit as many niche markets as you want.

Go in to the above site and start typing into the resource box niche topics that are relevant, or is of interest to you. Don’t forget this is absolutely free and will produce a wealth of ideas. What we are aiming to do is to find a niche topic, then look for sub niches within the same category. So if you’re interested in Fishing then type in “fishing” and make a note of all the sub categories within that niche. Example: Carp fishing, rod’s and reels, fishing clubs etc. These are what potential customers will be hungry for. Information on a specific niche item within an overall topic.

Again feast yourself on this site. A great reference tool where you’ll find masses of niche topics. Search through the titles and jot down anything that may be of interest to you and potentially can be turned into a profitable e-book. Don’t forget, if you do come across a topic you could exploit, then go back into WordTracker and look for sub niches.

If you thought that Amazon was a place to visit for buying books and electronics etc, then think again. THINK NICHE. With its huge resource library you simply log into Amazon and select ‘Books’ from the drop down menu then type in the topic you wish to exploit. If you’re interested in cooking then all you need do is write down all the sub niches within the general topic of ‘Cooking’.

Now don’t think for a moment that you’ll be competing against Amazon. Remember you will be producing a tight sub – niche e-book which will have a far higher perceived value because strangely as it may seem people will want the information NOW and not wait for up to 2 weeks for delivery. You could maybe sell the information for twenty dollars on Amazon whereas an instant downloadable e-book with an eye-catching title could fetch up to sixty dollars.

This is the veritable ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of niche product goodies you’ll find hard to find anywhere. Articles are the best way I believe, to go about finding tons of hot niche topics. Again go to the resource box type in your niche subject and feast yourself on hundreds of sub-niche ideas. For more information logon to www.googleatmcash.com .The secret here is to write down as many ideas as you can on subjects that interest you. Then go into WordTracker type in your topics. Now look for the sub-niches
And take note at how many people searched for that information over the past month. If the figure should be around five thousand, then you could have a potential lucrative e-book business in the making.

Now on to the final stage. You’re going to have to put all this information together in order to create your e-book. On a sheet of paper decide on how many pages you going to write then jot down the headings for each chapter from the information you’ve gathered. The easiest way of writing is in the “Speak talk” form. Just like you would do, if explaining a subject to a friend.

You have the finished article in your hands. Now is the time to write up some articles and press releases on the subject of your e-book and post them all over the net. Does some pay per clicks then repeat the whole process by getting your next e-book off the ground.

There’s no secret to making money if done correctly. Simply set up multiple streams of niche income generating e-books and you too, could soon be living the dream.
